Your expedition into Iceland’s remote interior begins in a modified Toyota Land Cruiser or 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter, purpose-built to navigate rugged F-roads and unbridged rivers with absolute comfort. Far from the paved Ring Road, you will enjoy a profound connection with the island's raw volcanic origins, guided by a certified local expert dedicated solely to your group. We provide seamless door-to-door service, offering the flexibility to start your journey from your hotel in Reykjavík or directly upon arrival at Keflavík International Airport, with an itinerary that adjusts fluidly based on weather, light, and your energy.

Your journey starts at the serene Hjálparfoss, where twin cascades tumble into a calm basin framed by twisted basalt formations in the shadow of the Hekla volcano. You will then witness the striking contrast of Hnausapollur, standing on the rim of a dormant crater to view the clash of red volcanic ash against a deep turquoise lake. The adventure continues to the geothermal oasis of Landmannalaugar, where you can hike through a spectrum of rhyolite colors—pinks, greens, and golden hues—or simply relax in the natural hot springs flowing through the valley.

Before concluding your expedition, you will visit the hidden Sigöldugljúfur, known as the Valley of Tears. This canyon is often missed by standard tours and features arguably the most beautiful collection of waterfalls in the highlands spilling down sheer cliffs. Whether you choose to hike the painted hills or soak in a natural geothermal river, this experience offers true isolation and an otherworldly perspective on the Icelandic landscape.

Important information

  • Footwear: Hiking boots are mandatory for walking on lava fields and uneven terrain.
  • Swimwear: Essential if you plan to bathe in the hot springs. A quick-dry towel is recommended.
  • Apparel: The weather changes instantly. Waterproof jacket and trousers + warm thermal layers are required.
  • Sun Protection: Sunglasses and sunscreen (the sun is strong at higher altitudes).
  • Seasonal Access: The roads to Landmannalaugar (F-roads) are only open during the summer months, typically from mid-June to early September. The exact opening dates depend entirely on road authorities and snow conditions.
  • The Terrain: Accessing the interior requires navigating F-roads, river crossings, and uneven lava fields. While our modified fleet is engineered for maximum capability and safety on this terrain, the ride can be demanding. Please be prepared for a genuine off-road experience that takes you far beyond the comfort of paved highways.
  • The Dynamic Climate: Icelandic weather is a force of nature—changeable and often dramatic. We view this not as a hindrance, but as an integral part of the Arctic experience. Your guide monitors conditions in real-time and may adjust the order of sights to ensure your comfort and safety. We recommend embracing the elements; the most dramatic photos often happen under the moodiest skies.
  • Facilities: Landmannalaugar is a remote wilderness outpost. Restroom and changing facilities are available but are basic and shared (mountain hut style). We recommend embracing the rustic nature of the location.
